How to get a job with a job search startup
In an interview with The Verge, an aspiring job seeker from India said that when he first started looking for a job in the country, he found an interview site called Kiva.
But then he found a job on Kiva with no job matching feature, and that’s when he realised it was a scam.
“I did not get a match,” he told The Verge.
“And I didn’t get any job.”
He’s not alone.
According to Kiva, the site only matches job seekers who have completed a job-search survey within the past 90 days.
But even if you’ve done the survey, Kiva will not match your job with one.
“The first time that someone does that, they get a response from a team of experts in a country where the job-matching system is not working, which means that the process is completely screwed up,” Kiva founder Pratibha Singh told The Guardian.
Kiva says that the service has received a lot of feedback from people who have been hired, but that the team still needs to improve.
“We are also trying to improve the algorithm,” Singh said.
The problem with the system is that it is very slow, Singh said, with responses that take around 10 minutes.
And if you don’t want to pay $1,000 for a lifetime membership, the company offers a $10 credit to sign up for its service, which is the minimum required to get started.
However, Singh’s advice to potential job seekers is to find a different service, preferably one that offers a cheaper subscription to get the job done.
Singh said that Kiva is not the only one with this problem, and is looking into ways to improve its matchmaking process.
“If there is a way to get matchmatch for more people, we will try to look at it,” Singh told Mashable.
“Our aim is to improve our matchmatch and get more jobs.
We don’t believe in this kind of matchmaking.”
In the meantime, Singh and his team are working on an app called Job Search, which aims to improve on Kava’s matchmaking system.
However they aren’t ready to release it yet.
“There is still a lot to do before we release the app,” Singh added.
