Why You Should Volunteer For The JCI Source Buzzfeed
“The more I understand this program, the more I want to participate,” said Merel Hovad, a 23-year-old student who is attending the program for the first time.
“I am very excited about it and excited to learn about it.”
The program, designed by the JCI’s student volunteers, is meant to inspire young people to become leaders in their communities.
In addition to a mentoring program, participants will be able to work with young leaders on issues they care about and build a personal brand, according to the organization.
Volunteers have been offered free of charge since January 2017, but the organization has since begun charging to help fund the program.
For now, volunteers must pay $10 per hour to cover the cost of a week of volunteering.
For some students, the program is a chance to get paid to do volunteer work.
“I really like the idea of the volunteer experience, because I feel like I get a lot out of it,” said Jordan Williams, who is enrolled in the program but has not yet applied.
“It is an opportunity to work in a community, get to know people, and feel like you are part of the community.”
